DESCRIPTION:
APW - Waltham, Appleton Tracy & Co, 15J, Model 1862, 20S, coin silver original E.T. & Co. (likely E. Tracy & Co.) HC, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#50160. An excellent early 20 size example that was handled previously by our gallery in 2012, this piece is from the first run of 20 size Appleton Tracy & Co. production which spanned serial numbers 50101 to 50200 and was made during 1862 and 1863. The only 20 size production to precede this run was runs of American Watch Co. grade movements at serial numbers 50001 to 50093 and 50095 to 50100, so overall the present watch is the 159th 20 size Waltham made by serial number.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, cluster of mild fine scratches to main plate in space between winding arbor escutcheon and edge of balance cock, few micro-fine scratches and mild small spots elsewhere, few small bits of oxide to winding arbor escutcheon and click; nearly flawless dial with only a short faint hl above seconds-register; excellent hands, minute with some finish loss; case shows light wear, an attractive dark patina to exterior and also to inner surfaces of front indicating that watch was likely stored for an extended period with the case front open, small nick to left side of front shield, few very small nicks elsewhere, no dents or dings, reduced engine turning detail with small portions of full loss at shoulders and rear center; tight bow, push shows light wear; good glass crystal.
